Sermons on The Epistle of Jude
The Epistle of Jude is often overlooked, perhaps because it consists of a single chapter of 25 verses. But to overlook it would be a profound mistake for Bible-believing Christians! It is a fiery masterpiece that packs more punch per word than almost any other writing in antiquity. It reads like an urgent wartime dispatch, blending rich poetic imagery with an uncompromising call to courage. It is a cinematic, high-stakes letter where cosmic battles, fallen angels, and ancient histories collide to confront a timeless human struggle: protecting The Truth in a world filled with deception and counterfeits. All this, not to mentioned a cryptic reference in Jude 9 about a struggle that occurred between Satan and the Archangel Michael over the body of Moses! (Was it over the ‘possession’ of the great leader’s body? Or over its ‘burial’? Or was it over something else again?)
Jude does not mince words. He orchestrates a vivid tapestry of warnings, drawing on rogue stars, waterless clouds, and hidden rocky reefs to describe the subtle dangers that creep into Christian communities. Yet, for all of its thunderous intensity, the letter begins and ends in a sanctuary of profound peace—anchored by an exquisite, breathtaking blessing that promises that God’s people will be kept from stumbling and presented flawless before the ultimate glory – the very benediction with which we close every service at Harvest. And so, Jude is something of a powerful literary paradox: a fierce battle cry wrapped within a tender love letter!
